A new breed of wooden bathtubs is borrowing from yacht building techniques to fashion decadent cocoons for some serious R&R. Ocean Shell by Swiss luxury brand Bagno Sasso is a prime example. Offered in pear and available in other species, 4 mm planks are steam bent to provide its distinctive clamshell shape. Marine grade adhesives and coatings are used to laminate layers of wood together and provide a durable waterproof finish for the bath fixture. An optional gravel border around the tub manages overflows, in which case one may not want to walk barefoot to the tub!

Aptly called Time, this minimalist faucet by Italian Architect Marco Pisati for Treemme Rubinetterie resembles a clock’s hands – an elongated flat spout and a long skinny handle in contrast colors are delicately balanced atop the tap’s tubular body. The plumbing fixture wittily plays on the numerous metaphors connecting water and time.
