We&#8217;re finally going into the renowned <a title=\"Ngorongoro Crater\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ngorongoro_Conservation_Area#Ngorongoro_Crater%20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ngorongoro Crater<\/a> where some 20 black rhinos remain in &#8216;protective custody&#8217;. After that, we&#8217;ll be heading to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lakemanyara.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lake Manyara<\/a> for a walking safari and some birding before returning to Arusha. Our game drive into the crater provided sightings of numerous resident wildebeests, zebras, gazelles as well as their predators. The carving on our bed for some reason had an oriental feel to it\u2026<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>This is a more modest lodge compared to our digs at <a href=\"https:\/\/interspace-design.com\/blog\/safari\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Buffalo Camp<\/a>. Unlike most kingfishers, it is not aquatic and lives in dry woodland areas.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>This <a href=\"https:\/\/ebird.org\/species\/gyhkin1\/TZ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">grey-headed kingfisher<\/a> is one of the 300 migratory bird species that stop by Lake Manyara. They&#8217;re often seen up in the shade of the canopy.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_0gzNXfcdhg?rel=0\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe>This video is a fitting finale to our African adventure. Seen for miles in the late afternoon, columns of wildebeest plodded up a hill, starting from the top and winding down slope in an orderly manner, like graduates filing into a stadium. It was a crapshoot trying to catch the wildebeest migration given\u00a0our itinerary\u00a0but it paid off with the sight of\u00a0thousands of animals on the move. Over the course of 8 days we experienced nature in its rawest form as we witnessed the cycle of life and death on the plains of the Serengeti. Beyond a shadow of a doubt, our African sojourn to <a href=\"https:\/\/interspace-design.com\/blog\/pursuit-lemurs-wildebeest\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Madagascar<\/a> and Tanzania was the trip of a life time!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As all good things must come to an end, we are approaching the last days of our amazing African safari.
