The waterfront is lined with eateries or shops, buzzing with the loading and unloading of people &amp; merchandise.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Trendy eateries like Mango Rooms and Morning Glory have coveted upstairs dining rooms facing the water, where diners can catch some breeze.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">There are a couple of great bakeries in the Ancient Town \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/tastevietnam.asia\/cargo-club-cafe-restaurant-hoi-an\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cargo Club Cafe<\/a> has particularly excellent pastries and lemon grass ice cream&#8230;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_758\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-758\" style=\"width: 616px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/interspacedesign.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/08\/hoianwaterfrontimg_7878.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-758\" title=\"HoiAnWaterfrontIMG_7878\" src=\"https:\/\/interspacedesign.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/08\/hoianwaterfrontimg_7878.jpg\" alt=\"Cafes and restaurants along the waterfront\" width=\"456\" height=\"294\" srcset=\"https:\/\/interspace-design.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/hoianwaterfrontimg_7878.jpg 774w, https:\/\/interspace-design.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/hoianwaterfrontimg_7878-300x193.jpg 300w, https:\/\/interspace-design.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/hoianwaterfrontimg_7878-464x300.jpg 464w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 456px) 100vw, 456px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-758\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Cafes and restaurants line the waterfront, sharing space with tourist, commuter and cargo boats.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Some of Hoi An\u2019s 800 historic buildings date from the 18<sup>th<\/sup> century, with architectural features rarely seen today.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Several prominent ones were Assembly Halls built by local Chinese communities, such as Canton, Fujian, Chaozhou, and Hainan. The original 1590\u2019s structure was flattened by the French for automobile traffic, but restored in 1986. The low contrast made bird sighting challenging, and unlike the hapless tourists, the purported 358 bird species there knew better than hanging out in the rain&#8230; Cold and miserable, we actually quit early despite hiring a bird guide and overnighting at the park for this exercise.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Unfortunately for us, the chilly drizzle followed us north on our 3-night <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geekyexplorer.com\/how-to-choose-best-halong-bay-cruise\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cruise in Halong Bay<\/a>, another UNESCO World Heritage site not far from\u00a0Hanoi.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_768\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-768\" style=\"width: 616px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/interspacedesign.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/08\/halongbauoximg_8107.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-768 \" title=\"HaLongBauOxIMG_8107\" src=\"https:\/\/interspacedesign.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/08\/halongbauoximg_8107.jpg\" alt=\"Donkey on a Cyclo\" width=\"456\" height=\"681\" srcset=\"https:\/\/interspace-design.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/halongbauoximg_8107.jpg 500w, https:\/\/interspace-design.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/halongbauoximg_8107-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 456px) 100vw, 456px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-768\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Can\u2019t resist this shot.
