Here is a selection of lighting products where designers have taken cues from their natural environment. Everyone has a slightly different idea \u2013 be it a realistic rendition or impressionist abstraction of nature\u2019s bounties, it\u2019s a collection that is sure to amuse and entertain!\u00a0I also have a couple blogs on some lovely environmentally friendly<\/a>\u00a0and sustainable lighting fixtures<\/a> for you to enjoy.<\/p>\n

\"Pendant<\/a>
Here’s a versatile suspension light fixture that looks great hung either direction!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Buff-Buff Design<\/a> offers a pendant that sports a transparent plexiglass body and stainless steel springs. Depending on the fixture size, 104 or 175 blue LED light points can be inserted. Although resembling blue grass when used as an uplight, it is equally cool as a downlight.<\/p>\n

\"Tulip<\/a>
The future’s so bright, I gotta wear shades!!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Quasar<\/a>‘s biophilia<\/a>\u00a0inspired Tulip lamp is as pretty as it’s functional. Available as table and floor lamps, this novel design gives top billing to the lowly zipper.\u00a0These zippers can be easily adjusted to shape the flower’s ‘petals’ to create different looks as inspiration strikes.<\/p>\n

\"Lamp<\/a>
The body is in stainless steel and nickel, and the striking shades come in white or red.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The operation of the zippers also cleverly control the light output, from mood lighting when closed, to the full blast of an unshielded bulb when totally unzipped.<\/p>\n

\"This<\/a>
This pendant light resembles a dandelion – or a tutu – twirling in mid air!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Fluo by Arturo Alvarez<\/a> garnered an award from\u00a0The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design<\/a>. It is a bold visual statement made from metallic mesh. The near translucent material gives the fixture an ethereal and weightless look. Despite its substantial (32\u201d dia) size, the fixture appears to float in space. It\u2019s available in white, red, and green with transparent cables to fit every d\u00e9cor!<\/p>\n

\"Lighting<\/a>
Nature inspired heat reactive light fixtures.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

These are not your everyday lamp shades \u2013 the amazing poppy shades gradually open up with heat! The shades are mouth blown glass which comes in a wide variety of colors.<\/p>\n

\"Lamp<\/a>
Will be fun to time the flower opening to one’s\u00a0 bedtime reading!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Each lamp is mounted on a flexible fabric-covered stem so they can be individually adjusted to suit your needs. The product is available as chandeliers, sconces, or table lamps.<\/p>\n

A light fixture that can double as a high end feather duster in a pinch!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Quasar has an LED fixture of black ostrich feathers, which may not be everyone\u2019s cup of tea \u2013 but it does add a sensuous and glamorous look to the lighting not achievable by other means.<\/p>\n

\"Wall<\/a>
Wall sconce that reminds me of the silhouette of a Western Screech Owl.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

A whimsical design from Estiluz<\/a> – the polycarbonate shade is a funky looking elastic cover in a lattice design. The light from the lamp bounces off the textured, warped shade and projects a distinctive pattern around the fixture.<\/p>\n

\"Ceiling<\/a>
A ballet of light and shadows from this\u00a0organic skeleton of pendant fixture.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Ross Lovegrove\u2019s Andromeda lamp for Yamagiwa<\/a> is a minimalist fixture with clusters of LEDs embedded at the cross-points of a hard polyurethane foam form. Lighting can be modulated and optimized by adjusting the mirror reflectors that are attached with magnets inside the frame.<\/p>\n

\"Pendant<\/a>
A suspension light showcasing the poetic juxtaposition between the natural and the man-made, the high touch and the industrial.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The lamp shade of this pendant fixture from Thai lighting design firm Ango<\/a>\u00a0is fabricated from superfine extruded rattan, which is both reflective and translucent. Being handmade, the shape of each fixture is unique and takes a week to produce.
